About 

To successfully complete the induction process you will need:  
  • Knowledge of where your animals are located for your project. 
  • Current animal ethics application/approval with your name listed, score sheets, other attachments. 
  • Current institutional biosafety committee (IBC) approvals including post exposure protocols. 
  • Current risk assessments relevant to the project. 
  • Please obtain this information from your supervisor prior to starting this process. 

Site inductions

  • Complete the below course/s using the Learning Management System.  
  • At the conclusion of the online course, you will get access to the online form to request a site induction.
  • Complete this form thoroughly and submit, the facility will contact you to progress the induction process. 

RODENT RESEARCH GROUPS

  • Complete the prerequisite course Identify Animal Health.  
  • Complete the course UQBR Pre-Induction (Rodents). 
  • If you will need access to UQBR-TRI please also complete the courses:
    • Facility Induction - TRI
    • Handling and restraint in mice or rats 
    • Euthanasia fundamentals in rodents 
    • Carbon dioxide aspyxiation in rodents.  

 

AQUATICS RESEARCH GROUPS 

  • Complete the course UQBR Pre-Induction (Aquatics).

Holding room inductions

Depending on the facility and project, you will be advised if a holding room induction is required. 

The purpose of a holding room induction is to familiarise yourself with the holding room to complete basic activities, ensuring all users understand the operational procedures. You may be required to demonstrate for assessment purposes these room procedures.

Containment room inductions

Depending on the facility and project, you will be advised if a containment room induction is required. 

The purpose of containment room inductions is to support workers to effectively:

  • Understand room processes due to a higher risk to worker safety.
  • Protect the various research projects within the holding room. 

 

INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Complete the course Containment room using the UQBR Learning Management System.  
  • At the end of the course an online form is provided, please complete and apply for the Containment room induction.  
  • You will receive an emailed copy of the form and the facility will contact you to progress.
  • If using UQBR-TRI facilities please also complete in the UQBR LMS:   
  • Use of Change station and BSC
  • Handling and restraint for Mice or Rats (Course + practical assessment) 
  • If euthanising rodents the relevant euthansia course + practical assessment) 
  • If anaesthetising the course Anaesthesia Equipment Practical + practical attendance 
  • Complete the below online courses within the TRI LMS
    • P2 Mask Fit Course 
    • Working with Cytotoxic Drugs 
    • Infection Risk of Laboratory Work.

Visitors and other Workers

Visitors includes research workers, students, and others that do not need swipe access. 

Workers includes UQ Property and Facilities, Contractors, Cleaners. These groups may already have access due to their role. 

There are several hazards and requirements to consider when entering UQ Biological Resources Facilities.
Please complete this entry application BEFORE first entry using the below link to:

  • Ensure your safety and receive any necessary support
  • To protect the research housed within the facility
  • To avoid inadvertently impacting animal welfare or breaching biosafety compliance

Exemptions:

  • Research workers involved in AEC approved projects (separate process required)
  • Emergency access by trained workers.
