At a glance

  • Holding mice under PC2 conditions
  • One of a kind in Queensland, offering housing and technical services
  • Supplying animals and experimental services for germfree and gnotobiotic/defined flora throuhgout the animals lifetime
  • Offering biobanking of gut microbiotia to safe guard against model loss from microbiome changes.

We can supply animals that are germfree, that is free from microbes, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and parasites throughout the animals lifetime. We also supply gnotobioic/defined flora animals that are selectively colonised with one of more bacterial species, of "known" microbiotia for experimental research.

What can we do?

  • Germ-free rederivation from fresh or frozen embryos or sperm and caesarean (may assist in importing mouse strains from “dirty” facilities).
  • Housing & husbandry services for germ-free & gnotobiotic rederived mouse strains.
  • Germ-free & gnotobiotic inbred strains for purchase (C57Bl/6, BALB/c, CD1).
  • Gnotobiotic technical services (e.g. inoculation with microbiota, oral gavage, IP & IV injections, vasectomy, tail bleed).
  • Sale and shipping of germ-free, gnotobiotic or microbiota reconsituted* animals (eg similar to JAX facility microbiota) *Available with a breeding plan only.
  • Biobanking of gut microbiota allowing for safeguarding against model loss due to microbiome changes e.g., through rederivation, changes to facility housing/diet, colony microbiome drift over time.
  • Timed matings.

Facility metrics

Current users can use the below facility information to report in enough detail facility information. Reporting animal research in adherence with the ARRIVE guidelines ensures transparent and thorough reporting. This enables readers and reviewers to scrutinise the research adequately, evaluate its methodical rigour, and reproduce the methods or findings. Research groups considering non-standard caging (opting out of a standard cage), should consider the following article to support understanding about indirect impacts to research design Reproducibility and Rigor in Animal-Based Research
