About
The University of Queensland's Biological Resources is a Central Research Platform (CRP) established to ensure there is effective and dedicated support for research involving animal models.
Established in 2006 to centralise operations, the Biological Resources unit includes a number of facilities across St Lucia, Herston and Gatton campuses, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Translational Research Institute, and Hidden Vale sites.
The core role of Biological Resources is the provision of best practice husbandry care, combined with research support such as hands-on training and project assistance.
Biological Resources has the ability to host a range of species, such as mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, pig, sheep, chickens and native species such as fat-tailed dunnarts that can be housed within a collective holding capacity of over 45,000 cages/pens.
