The Biological Resources is a Collaborative Research Platform (CRP).
The Biological Resources' facilities are primarily located within Schools and Institutes to support research involving animal models.
Projects are based on the consideration given to the animal health status and project requirements.
UQ St Lucia Campus
Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology Research Animal Facility (AIBN)
The AIBN animal facility has the highest pathogen exclusion level. This facility has research, holding and production facilities for a range of animal models.
AIBN can facilitate short-term holding and distribution of mice and rats from commercial suppliers such as the Animal Resources Centre and Monash Animal Services.
Aquatics Facilities
The Aquatics facilities manage a range of aquatic research species at the St Lucia campus.
Centre for Advanced Imaging Research Animal Facility (CAI)
The CAI animal facility provides access to state-of-the-art imaging equipment for animal research purposes.
Research Animal Facility, Otto Hirschfield building (OTTO)
Otto is a conventional animal facility providing for research and housing of a range of small animal research models.
Queensland Brain Institute Research Animal Facility (QBI)
The QBI animal facility comprises QBI ultrasound and behavioural testing, core services as well as rodent holding and surgical rooms. All animals are supplied by AIBN or facilities of equivalent health status ensuring that the animals are of the highest health specification possible.
Queensland Bioscience Precinct Research Animal Facility (QBP IMB)
The QBP animal facility provides conventional research and holding facilities for mice only.
School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences Research Animal Facility (SCMB)
SCMB is a conventional animal facility providing for research and housing of a range of small animal research models.
UQ Herston Campus
UQ Centre for Clinical Research Animal Facility (CCR)
The CCR animal facility is a conventional research facility.
Herston Medical Research Centre (HMRC)
HMRC is a joint venture partnership between UQ and Royal Brisbane Womens Hospital. It is located next to the RBWH and comprises conventional housing and AQIS standard import facilities for rodents. This complex also contains large animal research and holding facilities with extensive surgical training facilities.
Queensland Breeding Facility (QBF)
QBF houses mouse production colonies for UQ and external customers. These include BCBF1 and Swiss Quackenbush.
UQ Gatton Campus
Research Animal Facility (Gatton)
The Gatton animal facility houses rodents for research purposes for staff and students located at UQ Gatton campus. The facility has a valid permit to house laboratory rabbits for research purposes.
Queensland Animal Science Precinct
The Queensland Animal Science Precinct (QASP) is a unique world-class research facility that accommodates training, teaching, validation and commercialisation of animal research focusing on the research and development requirements of state, national and international animal industries.
Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba
Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence Research Animal Facility (PACE)
PACE is a clean, conventional rat and mouse facility located in the Pharmacy Australia building. It provides researchers with multiple surgery spaces, behavioural rooms and reverse light cycle holding and breeding rooms. Utilising IVC technologies, PACE houses 2000 mouse cages and 250 rat cages.
Translational Research Institute Biological Research Animal Facility (TRI BRF)
The TRI BRF is a large, clean conventional rat and mouse facility located in the TRI building beside the PA Hospital. It was commissioned in early 2013, has research, holding and production facilities for a range of animal models and utilises IVC caging technology.
