About

  • Biological Resources provide training in common rodent techniques with our experiened workers.
  • Non-standard training may be supported using cadavers or other species on request.
  • The practical training is based at the facility where the most suitable trainer based.
  • If non-standard training is required in live animals, this should on your animal ethics approval
    • Including the training procedure
    • UQBR trainer is a named participant
    • Animals numbers allocated for the purpose of training.

The UQBR training framework is best viewed as a structured support tool that research group can use to help meet their obligations under the Code and UQ Policy. Where training is undertaken, the framework sets out a defined sequence of prerequisites, training, and assessment, rather than offering it in an ad hoc manner. The training provided by UQBR focuses on common techniques and does not extend to unique or highly project specific procedures. It is not a participation-based model; completion of training alone does not indicate competency. Rather, individuals must demonstrate capability through assessment.

That said, some UQBR facility inductions may include mandatory training components. These requirements are set by the individual Animal Facility School, or Institute to address specific safety or operational needs.

Chief Investigators (CIs) retain overall responsibility for ensureing all investigators (staff and students) working on their projects are appropriately trained and competent.
